    Cianobacterias y microalgas: Potencial para la salud, la agricultura y el medio ambiente con un vistazo a la investigación en Costa Rica

    El objetivo de esta revisión narrativa exploratoria es exponer la relevancia de las cianobacterias y microalgas, organismos con notable diversidad metabólica y adaptabilidad ecológica, capaces de producir metabolitos con propiedades antioxidantes, antimicrobianas, antivirales, antiinflamatorias, fotoprotectoras y antitumorales, además de aportar soluciones en biotecnología ambiental. La metodología se aplicó de la siguiente forma: se realizó una búsqueda exploratoria en bases académicas (2015–2025), sin criterios sistemáticos, organizando los hallazgos en áreas temáticas y contextualizándolos con investigaciones desarrolladas en Costa Rica. Los resultados indican que, en salud, compuestos como ficocianina, cianovirina-N, dolastatina 10 y fucoxantina se evalúan en terapias contra cáncer, VIH, virus emergentes y enfermedades inflamatorias; en cosmética, polisacáridos y MAAs muestran efectos hidratantes, antienvejecimiento y fotoprotectores; en nanotecnología farmacéutica, diversos metabolitos funcionan como nano transportadores que optimizan biodisponibilidad y especificidad de fármacos. En agricultura, actúan como biofertilizantes, bio estimulantes y agentes de bio control, mejorando rendimiento, calidad nutricional y reduciendo agroquímicos. En el ámbito ambiental, destacan por bio remediar metales pesados, micro plásticos, antibióticos y otros contaminantes, además de capturar carbono y posibilitar la producción de biocombustibles, alineándose con la economía circular. Se concluye que, en Costa Rica, laboratorios de la UNA, UCR y TEC investigan especies locales con fines industriales, terapéuticos y ecológicos. Estos microorganismos constituyen una alternativa estratégica ante desafíos sanitarios, agrícolas y ambientales; no obstante, se requiere avanzar en regulación, estandarización, escalabilidad y evaluación toxicológica para su implementación efectiva.

    Entrepreneurial Intention of Students at University of Guadalajara

    This study examines the effectiveness of experiential learning in fostering entrepreneurial intentions among university students to use the Synergy project as a case study (CUCEA, CUCBA, and CUSUR, UdeG Network). By integrating training education with soft skills development in multidisciplinary teams, the initiative seeks to close the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical entrepreneurial application. Despite extensive research on entrepreneurial intentions, the specific impact of experiential learning and self-perception of capabilities within multidisciplinary collaboration remains underexplored. When using a quantitative approach, structural equation model (SEM) was used to analyze data from participating students, with reliability and validity evaluated via CFA. Results indicate experiential learning enhances business task performance, motivation and entrepreneurial interest with self-perception and entrepreneurial orientation that play key roles in this process. The study recommends integrating experiential learning into curricula to strengthen entrepreneurial skills, foster collaboration and promote sustainable innovation in alignment with global development frameworks.

    Escazú Agreement: A Framework for Protecting Environmental Human Rights Defenders and Advancing SDG16

    The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) seek to provide a blueprint for global peace and prosperity through a human rights-based approach. SDG 16 aims to promote peaceful and inclusive societies by ensuring access to justice and fostering strong institutions. However, negative trends in climate change, natural resource exploitation, biodiversity loss, and ecosystem health threaten the ability of nations worldwide to achieve the SDGs. Environmental human rights defenders (EHRDs) play a vital role in forging pathways to sustainable development that are equitable for both humans and the environment. Despite this, EHRDs are increasingly subjected to a wide range of physical and structural violence that threatens their human rights and environmental protection. The Escazú Agreement is the first and only multilateral treaty that explicitly recognizes the rights of EHRDs to a healthy environment and sustainable development. This paper seeks to highlight the Escazú Agreement as a mechanism for strengthening access to rights in Latin American and Caribbean nations in accordance with SDG target 16.10, which pertains to public access to information and protection of fundamental freedoms. The spirit of the Escazú Agreement reminds the world that, to protect human rights and nature, the global community must begin by protecting the people who defend the environment.
